The “Save the Date” video from Metallica promised a big announcement to be made today, and after much speculation in the rock/metal world, we finally know what all the fuss is about. The band is hosting their own music festival on June 23th and 24th, 2012 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Bader Field is abandoned airport, and the band joked that “There’s water around if there’s a fire.”.
The event is being called the Orion Music Festival and the band will headline both nights. They also hand-picked the other 22 acts (musical and comedy?!) on the lineup themselves. It will feature not one, but two North American firsts; playing the Ride the Lightning and Black albums in their entirety!!! In addition to music, the festival will also feature a lifestyle element, showcasing the band’s individual interests – and allowing fans to interact directly with each of the band members. Sounds like an event not to be missed!
Tickets for Met Club members go on sale tomorrow at 10am EST and runs until February 10th at 10pm EST. Special Met Club packages are available, for $225, which will include a 2-day pass, front of stage access, lounge access and more. Regular 2-day passes for Met Clubbers are $125.
General Admission tickets go on sale February 11th at 10am EST. 2-day passes will be $150.
This so-called ‘Save the Date’ video clip ends with the cryptic phrase “But you’ve never seen them…”
It should be noted that at the end of Metallica’s final 30th anniversary gig in San Francisco last December, Lars made the following announcement: “Put a big f—in’ pair of red ‘X’s’ in the calendar for June 23 and 24 on the East Coast of America, because you know what we’re gonna do, baby, we’re gonna take this thing f—in’ into a big ass f—in’ place.’
Sounds like there could be an announcement regarding a Metallica-headlined monster festival! Tune in tomorrow for the big news!
